Program:

Day 1, March 20 - Welcome to Bhutan, Paro airport.

Paro International Airport is among the most thrilling airports, set amid the lofty Himalayas. If your flight originates from Delhi via Kathmandu, gaze to the plane's left side, which allows you to witness the grandeur of Everest, Makalu, and Kangchenjunga, three of the world's tallest mountains, along with other mountains.

We will pick you up from the airport between 10 and 11 a.m. and accommodate you at the hotel. Then, we will visit the National Museum of Bhutan, Ta Dzong.

Next, head to the Rinpung Dzong. Rinpung Dzong is an ancient fortress in traditional Bhutanese architecture. Its complex of courtyards, temples, administration offices, and open space is surrounded by towering walls. All the buildings have huge windows and elaborate wooden carvings of traditional Bhutanese motifs. Paro Dzong is considered one of the finest examples of Bhutanese architecture and a top tourist attraction.

Evening drive to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. Overnight at the hotel in Thimphu.

Day 2, March 21 - Explore Thimphu

Visit the National Memorial Chorten, the kingdom's most iconic relic, and then the giant Buddha Statue in Kuenselphodrang. The statue towers to a height of 169ft (51,5 m) and is supposedly the largest bronze statue in the world. Followed by a visit to the National Institute of Zorig Chusum, also known as the school of 13 Arts and Crafts. After lunch, visit the Takin Preserve to see takins, Bhutan's national animal. These unique creatures hold a significant place in Bhutanese culture and folklore. Next, head to the Bhutan Post Office, where you can make personalized stamps using your own photographs. End the day by visiting the farmers' market, the largest vegetable market in the country. Overnight at the hotel in Thimphu.

Day 3, March 22 - Drive from Thimphu to Punakha, 76 km, 2 hrs, and a short hike to the Temple

Serenic drive to Punakha with a stop at Dochu La (3100 masl), where, on a clear day, you can catch spectacular views of the Himalayas. We stop at Metsina, hike through rice paddies, and climb to the Chimi Lhakhang Temple. This Temple is dedicated to the great 14th-century Yogi known as "Divine Madam," who is believed to bless women who seek fertility. In Punakha, we will visit the most beautiful dzong (fortress) in Bhutan, Pungtang Dechen Phodrang Dzong, meaning “The Palace of Great Happiness.” We will arrive in Punakha after traversing rice fields and the banks of the Punakha River. Visit Punakha Dzong, which is now the winter residence of the central monastic body. Overnight at the hotel in Punakha.

Day 4, March 23 - Drive from Punakha to Lingmukha Village (trek starts)

Distance 12 km, time 6-7 hrs, ascent 948 m, descent 81 m, camp elevation 2147 masl.

The trail heads east towards Lingmukha. Initially, the trail winds through paddy fields, then climbs steeply to a chorten (stupa) that marks the highest point on today's hike. Chortens (Tibetan) and stupas (Sanskrit) are sacred Buddhist monuments symbolizing the Buddhas enlightenend mind, commonly found across the Himalayas, India, and East Asia. After picnic lunch, the trail leads into the pretty Lingmukha Valley. We will visit the Lingmukha Lakhang Temple and then head to the campsite.

Day 9, March 28 - Hike to Tiger's Nest Monastery

Tiger's Nest, also known as Paro Taktsang, is a prominent Buddhist monastery and temple complex situated on the cliffside of the upper Paro Valley in Bhutan. It's one of Bhutan's most iconic landmarks and a significant Buddhist pilgrimage site.

The monastery sits at around 3,120 meters (10,240 ft) above sea level and is known for its stunning architecture and breathtaking setting. Legend has it that Guru Padmasambhava (also known as Guru Rinpoche), a revered Buddhist master, meditated in a cave at the site in the 8th century, giving it its spiritual significance.

The name "Tiger's Nest" derives from the legend that Guru Padmasambhava flew to the site on the back of a tigress, heightening the monastery's mystical aura. Today, it's a popular tourist destination and a challenging trekking destination for those seeking spiritual fulfillment and adventure.

Suppose we hike above the Tiger’s Nest monastery to another monastery, Zangdopelri (about 1 hour more). In that case, a beautiful lawn outside the monastery is used for a yoga session overlooking the Paro Valley. It’s a lovely, dramatic spot on the cliff above Tiger’s Nest monastery.

Additional Information:

The Kingdom of Bhutan reopened its borders to tourists on September 23, 2022. However, it will do so with a renewed emphasis on the sector’s sustainability. The tourism industry will be revamped, with a focus on three key areas: infrastructure and services, tourist travel experiences, and the sector's environmental impact.

A tourist must pay a tourism levy known as the Sustainable Development Fee of USD 100 per night, which the Competent Authority may revise from time to time. The proceeds go toward carbon-neutral activities and developing a more sustainable tourism sector.

There is one international airport in the country. Two airlines, Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines, conduct regular flights.
